The best first person shooter on the PS2

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

This game is the epitomy of all evil. You have no idea how many tests i have failed because of the lack of study while i played this game. The gameplay is great, and you get the feeling that you are a part of the war, rather than the entire war, which is rare in a first person shooter. Yes, people did do these kinds of missions during world war 2. Some complain that there is not enough blood and gore. That is exactly the reason for video game controversy. For once, I can buy a game so i dont have to be nagged by my mother(i am 13) over something being too violent(despite my frequent watching of war movies, most twice as bloody as your GTA: Vice City. And dont listen to those people who are angry of the difficulty of the game, they are on the top and bottom of the gaming ladder. I have heard that this game is impossible on easy, and that it was beaten in one day on very hard. If you are truly set on listening to those who give lousy reviews, at least give this game a rental, trust me, you won't regret it.

Disney does WWII

One must admit, a WWII shooter in a 3D environment, titled other than Wolfenstien was still a fairly untouched idea in until 1998. Made shortly after the WWII "Saving Private Ryan" craze in the late 90's, MOH became a smash hit on PS. Players could "Fight WWII again for the first time"! In 2002, MOH Frontline blew fans away again on PS2 with its highly new and improved detailed environments and gameplay, yet time and the improvement of WWII shooters since then, would change fan's opinions and make such a game outdated and obsolite. MOH Frontline first has you storming the beach along with hundreds of other soldiers on D-DAY. This opening gave many first-timers the false sense that they were NOT alone in this "war effort". WRONG! As soon as you step foot on the beach, damn nearly all fire power is focused on you, as if you are the only threat against Hitler. Yet as much carnage that could be expected, not a drop of blood can be seen throughout the entire game. You will get shot at least 10-50 times before the first mission is through. You have no back up, as your allies are really dumb, and aimlessly wander into the line of fire, dying far easier than your half-witted yet, smarter enemies. Most missions, youre flying solo against the entire German war machine, taking the entire work load in this "007-like" storyine. The gameplay and storyline can be compared to riding the "Pirates of the Carribean", with its single-pathed platforms and animatronic looking characters. It just comes off too disney-like and cartoonish. It often tries to regain its seriousness with its famous quotes and historic footage before each level starts and once again harshly reminds you by its previously mentioned flaws, that "its only a game". Not to mention, the cliche "choir boy led symphony" to keep you in the heroic mood! Not much justice to the appreciation of WWII. The graphics maybe the only plus that earns it 2 out of 5 stars in my book. This game is only good for those who want to complete their collection of MOH or for those who want to replace a missing or broken copy. To anyone else, dont waste your money.

Fun Game Overall BUT...

... don't expect to see the same graphics as you do on the television commercial. In fact, if you've played the previous Medal of Honor series on the PS1, you'll notice that graphics are not that huge of an improvement. Yes they are better, but nothing close to what they possibly could be.

As for gameplay, expect the same as the previous MOH games. Great first person shooter scenarios/missions taking place during the battle of Normandy. Overall, more of the same which means good fun. The controls are pretty good and the advanced levels of difficulty allow for more control than previous games.

The sound and music are again at the top of their game. If you have a home theater system, you can really experience the Dolby Digital sound mix which is very good.

Overall a very good game. After seeing the commercial, you can see how good this game can look. It's unfortunate, that it comes up a little short on the PS2. Regardless, it's one of the best out there.

Final Note: A little easy. If you can rent the game for a few days, you might be able to actually finish it.

My grandfathers tales come to life on my ps2

I right now have a copy of Medal Of Honor Frontline for the ps2 in my hands and in my ps2. First off this game is great. I think it really shows off the power of the ps2. Graphically it is top notch there is a lot of atttention to detail one thing I noticed was the different emblems of a soldiers units on there sleeves I thought that was kinda neat. The music is outstanding as well as the sound effects I've never heard any of these weapons fired in real life, but they sounded pretty real to me especially the sniper rifles with there echos. Controls are a bit tough to master at first, the analog sticks are very touchy but after a bit it gets a little easier. overall this game is excellent the only problems I have and they are minor is the other charecters don't turn to face you if they are talking to you. the other is well, not that I'm a big gore fan (and the game is perfect just the way it is) blood would have been a good addition or maybe to have the bodies of the dead nazi's that you killed not disappear so that they would alert other soldiers on patrols. although, I do understand why those two aspects weren't in the game. Finally on a side note my grandfather was in WWII he was part of the 10th mountain division he was M.I.A. for a while and was all over africa and europe he would tell me storys from when he was over there. And it's kinda neat to be able to play in a game that is so acurately done, and set in the same conflict that he so proudly served his country in.

Best game in a long time!

This is the best game I have played in a long time. I won't waste time telling you the history, as it has been done already. The game itself is great. You will find yourself really getting pulled in. It is very realistic in that you actually get "kick back" from the guns you fire (and the severity depends on the gun!). In the beginning this may be a little frustrating, but if you get used to it, it really helps. Easy mode is easy, but not so easy that it gets boring. I am almost at the end and will try a more difficult mode after. Getting back to the play....It sounds great on my surround with the base making it, at times, intense. If you don't have surround sound, you are missing out. My two gripes are the lack of surround and the fact that the controls are 100% customizable. True, you can make many changes, but I was unable to make it the way I wanted and ended up using a default setting, which was really no big deal. There are a couple of places where I did see a bit of slow down, but it was very rare. The best thing about the game are the snipers. That is my favorite and really made the game for me.....Now, stop reading and go buy the game.....this is not a rental! You'll spend more in late fees. This is a keeper!

Peace,

Morley

Medal of Honor Frontline: The Seige Continues

Let me start off by saying, WOW! As a fan of the entire MOH series, I have been eagarly awaiting the release of this game for quite some time and believe me, the wait was worth it!! This game is amazing! From storming the beaches of Normandy to fighting house to house throughout Europe, this game delivers in every aspect possible. This game has 20 mini missions within 6 major missions. What really makes the game cool is the 6 major missions are based on ACTUAL events from WWII! The graphics are incredible, maybe some of the best I've seen. Frame-rate is smooth and seamless and the detail (character and backround) is amazing! The sound is right up there with the previous 2 MOH titles, however, the weapons sound a bit more realistic. Watch "Saving Private Ryan" then play this game and you'll see what I mean. Speaking of weapons, you get to play around with 20 authentic WWII weapons. Sniper rifles, silenced pistols, machine guns, and grenades are only a few of the "toys" available. The controls are very similar to the other MOH titles, so picking them up isn't difficult at all. You have a few different control configs to pick from, plus you can customize a config of your own. My only complaint about this game is the lack of blood. In my opinion, adding blood into the mix would complete the "realism" factor that EA was obviously striving for. Maybe in the next installment, they'll include a "blood" option that can be turned on an off. FINAL THOUGHTS: This game is a blast to play and a must have for anyone with a PS2. IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, GO OUT AND BUY THIS GAME TODAY!!

The Greatest War Game/Action Game/First Person Shooter Ever

WWII was probably the most well known war in America's history. And many things in the media culture made things off of that war. The best movie for WWII is deffinitly Saving Private Ryan, and the best video game for it is without question Medal of Honor Frontline. I bought this game not ever playing it, but for some reason I knew I couldn't go wrong, and I sure was right. I haven't beaten the game (Missions are difficult) but I have played it for many many hours and let me tell you, this and Grand Theft Auto III are the best games I have ever played on any system. I have played tons of games for every system out there, but this is by for the best. First off, the story is true, realistic, and so are the missions. The only thing that is really fictional about this game is you. Jimmy Patterson. Second, the graphics are excellent. Third, the gameplay has almost no limits in war. You can reload, fire, smack people with your weapon, crouch, jump, and aim. The audio was custom made for this game, and it is superb. Dramatic and intense war music that fits the mood for each mission. The enemy of course is the nuturious Nazis of Germany. This game is deffinitly the most realistic game I have ever played too. The begining when they are in the boat, going to the shoreline is almost identicle to the begining of Saving Private Ryan. There are bombs going off every where, medics treating patients on the battlefields, Gunshots, everything that could happen in a war. Even in the boat there war soldiers praying, and even vomiting!! There are many missions. Also, there are a lot of weapons you pick up in your missions. Kudos to EA Games for making an excellent game. Enough said. BUY THIS GAME!
P.S. Any body that gives this game lower than a 5 star rating has A. Never played this, or B. Has no good taste in video games whatsoever. And I salute all Americans who have died for our country. God Bless America.

I have played the first Metal of Honor and I loved it. However, this game does not improve on the Metal of Honor formula. Let me start off by saying what I love about this game; the sound is fantastic and some of the missions are actually fun. Now let me tell you about the bad:
The hit detection for most of the A.I is almost non existent. The controls for your aim is so oversensitve that hitting your enemy is a challenge in itself, especially where there is no auto aim. The computer Nazis have an advantage over you, they can move and aim better than you can. Some missions have you doing the same thing over and over and it gets really old, really fast. Take away all the fancy sound and WWII theme and you have a less than average, not so fun game. Rent it first.

While visually stunning, the gameplay brings nothing new to the first person shooter experience. Expect to be lead down a specific path in the maps, while the extravagant worlds leave you longing to explore the terrain. Initially, i thought it would incorporate more stealth and strategy into the gameplay, but it ends up being a full blown shoot-out reminiscent of DOOM. The weapons leave a bit to be desired, while i can unload an entire clip at an enemy at point blank, and not a single hit, (not while standing still of course, that would be suicide). Unless you stand relatively still, there is little hope of hits. As well, it seems that there is a period of about a second while the AI reacts to getting shot, before putting another round into 'em will actually be effective. Aggravating to say the least.
Any attempt at being stealthy, crawling around and using a silenced pistol usually ends up with the alarm being blown, leaving you asking what was the point? The AI almost always knows where you are immediately.
Overall, the game as less re-play value due to the mission layout, which does not vary at all. It is like Bond, but with much better graphics, but for anyone expecting a game with a bit more intelligence and potential, this can be disappointing.
