A great PS2 shooter

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

The XBox may be king of the first-person shooter hill with titles like Halo and Unreal Championship, but the PlayStation 2 has been holding its own lately with games such as Medal of Honor: Frontline, a WWII shooter that puts you in the shoes of Jimmy Patterson, an Amercican soldier with the OSS.
Graphics in MoH:Frontline are solid but not superb. background graphics looked authentic, well textured, and high-polygon. However, some of the characters seemed to have second-notch grapcis especially at close range and using a sniper rifle. Any weakness in graphics, though, is made up for by the top-notch sound design. Music and ambient noises take effective use of surround sound, enemies speak authentic and quality German (though English voice acting was less than great, there was little of it), and gunfire seems to echoe through corridors. IIf you have a 5.1 speaker system, the sound will awe you
Gameplay itself is excellent. The levels had a real WWII feel unlike some games such as Castle Wolfenstein. Particularly in the first and fourth missions, it felt like you were really part of a larger war effort. Also, gameplay is rich with small, interesting touches and easter eggs such as blowing off enemies helmets. The game is certainly long enough for gamers looking casual recreation, and even hardcores will occasionally be challenged. The game makes an attempt to vary the levels, but I was dissapointed it didn;t give you much flexibility as to how to achieve goals. The major dissapointment, though, was a lack of multiplayer. With many WWII games such as Day of Defeat, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, and Battlefield 1942 dominating multiplayer gameplay on PCs, this was dissapointing.
If I could, I'd give this game 4.5 stars; its not perfect. However, if you're for a single player shooter, its the best the PlayStation 2 has to offer. If you're looking to expand your shooter collection, you want to "get into" shooters, or if you're a WWII fan, buy this game. You won't be dissapointed.

Solid, fun FPS

I finished this game a while ago, but after buying and being disappointed by the sequel, Rising Sun, it's worth mentioning that this is a great game.

This game is tougher, more realistic, and more fun than Rising Sun. Rising Sun's only advantage is the multiplayer mode. Criminally, the PS2 version of Frontline doesn't have multiplayer, yet the X Box version does. It's an awesome feature that they cheaped out on.

The opening on D Day is amazing. They haven't topped it yet. The game is a decent enough challenge. One complaint is that it's too linear, like the EA Bond games. You can't steer the wrong way, period. The violence is top notch, but this being EA, it's rated T so there's no blood, no gore. I don't understand how you make a WWII game with historical accuracy and a ridiculous amount of killing and then try to clean it up and sanitize it like a comic book. This was WWII.

It's actually fun playing with older weapons in a fps and comparing the American and German arms. The sound is great, especially in the opening. You also hear plenty of German from the enemy and a little bit of swearing (in German) apparently.

This game is still highly recommended. It's a lot of fun and provides a decent enough fps challenge. It's superior to Rising Sun for sure.

I own the ACTUALL GAME, First of all the D day mission is exactly like Saving private ryan from the second your on the U boat to underwater to the beach. The missions are not hard or easy. I rate the controls a 4 out of 5. Then the Graphics are a Perfect Score the charcter models are very Smooth and stays at 60 Frames per second through the whole game. The Sound is also perfect not only are the guns sound real the Music is AWSOME. The game takes aboot 20 hours if you are REALLY good if not the aboot 25,30. I can not find an Flaws of this game except for the controls are not perfect but u get used to it after the first mission. I suggest EVERYONE buy this game BETTER then Grand Theft Auto 3. Thanks : )

I got a chance to sit down and play the demo version of frontline, and let me tell you this, it is extraordinary. There are special effects, exsplosive, and sound effects that surpass allied assalt in many ways. The graphics are much better than I expected. The detail in the characters and scenery is very high and I mean very high. The game play and character acting is much improved. Although the facial expresions are not as good as allied assalt there are many improvments such as the others soldiers style of running, walking, throwing grenades, and a much better AI. It is realy cool. It is the best First Preson Shooter I have ever gotten a chance to play. I think everyone should check it out.

Must have for any WWII or action game fan...

MOH Frontline is a fantastic game. The graphics live up to PS2 standards, the gameplay is smooth, and the sound effects are outstanding. The game opens up with the Omaha Beach landing. It is like being in the move "Saving Private Ryan." Of course, having the game start off like this gives the gamer a taste of what he/she is in for. An interesting fact, this game is inspired by WWII movies like "Saving Private Ryan," "U-571," and "A Bridge Too Far." If you liked these movies, then you better get the game, because you can be "in" these movies. A final thought: this game lives up to the kind of quality that "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" brought to the PS2. Oh yeah, and the full version is vastly improved from the demo version. Rating: 5 out of 5! :)

If you are one of those folks who played Medal of Honor, Allied Assault on the pc and enjoyed it or found it was incompatible with your pc and were frustrated, then MOH Front Line is your dream come true. It is MOHAA reincarnated for PS2.

This game plays just like MOHAA but with PS2 you get guaranteed excellent graphics, gameplay and sound even though the controls are more cumbersome than a pc. The AI and graphics are much improved over the previous two Playstation 1 MOH's. The Germans are much more "intelligent" and scurry around trying to get a position on you while covering their own butts. And they very much work as a team.

This game is really a blast to play, sometimes very difficult in advanced gameplay, with great atmosphere, creative and varied characters and authentic scenarios.

The things I dislike most are unfortunate carryovers from the previous MOH's, namely, no ability to save in the middle of a game (it gets very frustrating to be near the end of a level and get killed, only to have to do it all over again). Secondly, enemies die and still fade away. And third, no blood.

But everything else is so well-done that it makes this an addicting, authentic and very enjoyable first person shooter.

Good buy.

If you can pry yourself away from GTA3 you will like this game. I rank it in the top 3 of all the PS2 games I've played, just behind #1 GTA3 and just ahead of Madden 2002. The controls are bit tricky to get used to at first since you have to use the toggle bars instead of the direction pad but I adjusted to it after a few hours. The graphics are very nice and the enemy AI is good as well. My favorite part of the game is the rich sound, empty shells pinging off the ground, and the footsteps of enemy soldiers add to the realism. The soundtrack is great, it really adds to the game. Overall, if you are a fan of the Medal of Honor series or like war games, you will love this game.

A Must Have for Playstation2!

If you own a Playstation2, then you must own Medal Of Honor Frontline. I was hesitant when I first bought this game, but after owning it for one weekend, I am hooked and completely in awe.

The creators of this game have considered every facit of battle from sounds to vintage weapons and incorporated the latest computerized technology in human movement and facial expressions. There is an original score that is just beautiful and it makes this play more like a DVD movie than a video game. Speaking of DVD, it seems that the creators modeled this game after one because they've even remembered to add "extras" like 'Making Of' and 'History' which feature live video footage of the orchestra and choir recording the soundtrack and historical footage from the 1940's.

Gameplay took me a while to get used to because the game is chock-full of options. Once I got the movement and weapons down, it was great. The three difficulty levels make the game playable for all ages but even the "EASY" setting is a challenge. With a memory card, you can keep a running record of your missions including accuracy with weapons, most-used weapons, a break down of which body parts hit on enemies (head, left/right arm, torso, groin, left/right leg), and more.

Despite all of that, the sound alone is worth purchasing the game. With my 5.1 Digital Surround on, the game has you feeling like you are on the battlefield. There are explosions behind you and voices calling for you help from the right and when you turn, the sound reacts...for example if someone is calling your name from the right, when you turn and start walking towards it, you will hear the voice from the center. This makes the entire experience so life-like.

I would highly recommend getting this game. As Matrix is to DVD, Medal of Honor: Frontline is to Playstation2...a Must Have.

First of all, its a great game, with cool levels, but was it really that real?-No blood,-Barely any teamwork. This game turned you from soldier to secret agent,if you werent alone it would have been more realistic. The "front line" wasn't very crowded.
