OK for a while

Some of the flaws of this game:

1) Level grind - after lvl 30 or so, each kill will only give about 0.1%-0.2% of a level, that means you have to kill 500-1000 monsters to get 1 level.

2) Economy - It cost insane amount of "adena" to purchase equipments. At level 20, you get about 180a each kill, but it cost 1 million adena to get a decent weapon. This inevitable leads to item#3.

3) Adena farmers/ebays - Because items cost so much, it created a league of adena farmers and people who don't want to go through the grind, who pay real life money for adena. The going rate is about $20 for 1 million adena, but that only gets you a decent weapon at level 20. At level 30+ weapon can cost 5 million+. You do the math.

4) Griefers/Scammers - Just like in the real world, there are bunch of people out to ruin your day. They will kill steal you, scam you, try to get you killed, while you just want to play and have fun.

5) Customer support - it doesn't exist...

This game is fun in the beginning, the graphics is good. But as you play for a while, you realize that you are just killing the same monster over and over, then when you hit a certain level, it is time to upgrade your weapon. So go ahead and spend all your hard earned adena into this uber weapon, but then you realize the higher level monster you are fighting now also has more hp and higher defense, so there is vitrually no difference from the monster you fought at level 15! You just click and go through the same procedure. This is just a never ending traadmill.

True, there is castle seige and pet dragons. But don't bother until you hit level 50+. Even for guys who play 40 hours+ per week takes months to achieve that level. So unless you are willing to throw away you job, family, and life. The "fun" features aren't for you.

The game is good, it's the people that make it bad...

I've come to this conclusion after playing since open beta and 2 months after. Beta people were horrible, but it's still bad enough to make me mad when I played, so I had to quit for the sake of my sanity. Sure, not all people are bad, but it's not just a few either.
BAD:
1. People are all out rude and get away with stuff you'd never get away with in EQ (EverQuest) or AC2 (Asheron's Call 2) like cussing, name calling, kill stealing, harassing, etc.
2. People will exploit out in the open and not care (ie. perching) - GMs are SLOW to do anything, if at all about this. D
3. Adena Farmers. The bane and ruin of this game. There are people who are paid $$ to 'farm' Adena to sell for real $$. They are EVERYWHERE. They will not hesitate to kill your character if they think you're in their way. Any good place to level in this game is full of them. So to answer 'this is the most popular game, bla, bla, bla' is because there's hundreds, if not thousands of accounts just for these 'businesses'. It's sick. GMs will not respond to you in person if you report this activity. They're usless.
3. People will try anything to exploit the PvP system (which really don't have anything to do with the castle seige PvP system). If they suceed, you will be KoS to everyone (name turns red) and will have a high (like 3 or 4 item) drop rate when you are killed. So all your hard earned expensive stuff will be gone and people will be laughing at your corpse as they pick up your hard earned items.
4. Also, if you lose an item due to server crash or any other reason on NC's side, they will NOT replace your item. I was engaged in a mob fight and there was an unannounced server crash, so I died and lost my top that took me 2 weeks of mindless adena collecting to get. Read the ToS first.

Other Problems:
1. Servers go down a lot. Mob servers mainly.
2. GM/Customer Service is worthless.
3. PvP needs more added to it.
4. Needs more/different quest content.
5. Rare drops of anything, little Adena per mob.
6. Because of #5, everything is expensive.

If you can tollerate all of this, then this is a good game for you.

The only good thing this has going for it is the graphics. If they put an IQ limit on this game, it might be worth playing again. Heh, I can wish, can't I?

Boring and buggy

This game is boring, and very very buggy. The game promises for great Sieges but it's not even live, even now after over a month of retail release. The person saying he has been playing this game for 10 months is lying, because the NA Lineage 2 has only been out since May.

Save your money. If you want to try it, wait until the Chronicle 1 patch is in, then ask people how the game is. The game company is in Korea, and they do not talk to customers at all. There's almost zero dev-customer contact. Everybody right now is waiting for this Chronicle 1 update because it's supposed to add Siege and several other things. The thing is, Chronicle 1 was supposed to be released at retail. And currently customers can't even get a direct answer back from the devs regarding when this Chronicle 1 update is going to be in.

The PvP system in this game is messed up, the karma system does not promote PvP, and there's very very little PvP in the game at the moment.

Graphics are great in this game, I will give 2 thumbs up.

Controls are really really awkward, it's mostly a point-n-click based system. Think about diablo.

The grind is horrible, player economy is overpriced, and there are a lot of farmers and bots running around. There's also a lot of exploits found recently in the game.

My suggestion is to save the money and wait until the company decides to fix the game up.

The game is for sociopaths

This game is very beautiful to look at, and that's about it. I'll start first with the controls.

If you have gotten use to playing other MMORPG's in the past years, you will have noticed that they all allow you to configure the controls to suit your play style. This feature is absent in Lineage II. All movement is done by point click with the mouse as if this were a top down view game-very poorly done. You can adjust the volume, the graphics, and that is it. They do have shortcuts to common tasks and abilities.

The look of the game, as I said, is beautiful and the reason for the second star I gave it, but the characters all look alike. You select a face, a hair style and color, and off you go. That is character creation.

Your overall game play will be hampered tremendously by the PvP aspect of the game. This is a PvP game. This is not a game with PvP in it, the game is all about PvP which is something the developers should advertise on the box-if I had known this I would have never bought it. You can expect to be killed numerous times by people far more powerful than you, so gaining levels will be very difficult unless you play with a few of your friends every time you are on and I do mean every time you are on. I find it amazing that NCSoft are the same people behind City of Heroes which is a far better game to play. Don't waste your money here like I did.

You are, or you arent.

You are either a fan of MMORPG's or you're not, it's plain and simple. Lineage 2 IS a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. Kills monsters, gain exp, gain levels, gain items. (PlayerKilling is also a part of most mmorpgs, so be prepared to die a bit)

Never judge a game from it's Beta Test, take shadowbane for an example, the beta test was great! But when the game released.. well, it sucked!

Wait a while before deciding on this one, it's not done yet, and the newbies are giving bad reviews.

Great game

Great game. Many great things in it. I like the more realistic graphics than in WoW. politics are intense in this game, so it takes some guts to play with it, and join the many clans and alliances in the game. The game has it's own story line and mythology, that goes well with the game. Lvling is slow after 35, but it's awesome to participate in the castle sieges and see the many hundreds of people fighting it out on the battle fields for a huge castle and control of the local economy. Yeah sure they have farmers, but what mmorpg doesn't? it's really a lot of fun, and the PK (player kill) is quite nasty because it becomes a matter of political involvement but it's extremely realistic, much more so than WoW ever could be. WoW is too much of a fantasy that goes great with the Warcraft series that i love, but Lineage2 sets it's own standard.

7. Like fighting the same way for days on end

Sucks...plain and simple

Not a game for American Audiences

Having purchased and subscribed to Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle I can say it was probably the most disappointing game of the year. Developed originally in Korea, where the game is actually further advanced than in the form it was released here in the USA, you find yourself in a world that struggles to translate itself to American (Or English Speaking) Audiences. Not only are the errors a distraction, but at times very humorous. Also, you find a huge communication gap between you and the rest of the community the Majority of players are from Korea. While you will run into the ocassional English Speaking player, it's a rarity.

Also, this game is *NOT* for kids. I would say that it should not be purchased for anyone under 17. If you would not let your teenages go to the theater to see women in highly sexualized bondage outfits with heaving, often exposed bosoms (Dark Elves) or small framed, petite schoolgirl like characters in short-short mini skirts with panties exposed (Light Elves) then you should not purchase this for younger members of your family. Some of the overt content is gratuitous and highly inappropriate expecially regarding how their female characters are presented. While this is the Norm for Asian Audiences, the literal birthplace of Anime and it's pornographic sub cultures, it can really seem displaced.

The gameplay itself is far from spectacular. Having played many online games, I can safely say, never has one been so unreasonabley difficult to broach. The level grind is simply unnecessary. It is not really fun, it becomes like a job, a chore, and because any advancement you do make can be robbed of you (As you are penalized for every death by having hours of experience taken from your character) in an instant, you quickly become discouraged, and even frustrated.

The only part of this title that reflect truth is "The Chaotic Chronicle." Thats just what this game is. Chaos. It is kill or be killed - by other players. No matter if you've just started an hour ago and are level 3, a level 40 player can run by and kill ou as you toil away to advance, thus penalizing you for the death you just experienced. Some people will see the animation around you that plays when you advance and level, then systematically kill you to send you back to your previous level. There is no controlled atmosphere here. The conduct of the community is appaling and often very graphic.

Do yourself a favor, purchase a quality game like World Of Warcraft or even Dark Age Of Camelot.

Good graphic, sound, but lacks Content

I played for open beta for about one month. When I played Lineage 2 the first time, I was amazed by its graphic and music. I especially like the moon light and take tons of pictures of it. But, there is little content in this game, at least for now. The quests are dull. Usually it requres you to go kill some numbers of monster in exchange for Adena(money). Since money is the King in this game, players are forced to do these boring quests again and again. The leveling isn't really that hard and soloing is probable for certain classes.(archer) However, if you level too fast without making enough money, then you will get stuck. Some people die purposely to reduce their levels, which allow them to kill lower level monsters to make money. The game might be fun after sieging is allowed after next update, Chronical 1. Anyway, here is a quick sum up:
pro:
1. good graphic, sound
2. Sieging might be awesome.
3. PvP, if this is your thing
con:
1. Really bad customer support
2. Boring quest. Nothing else to do besides slash-n-hack.
3. Exploits in the game.
My recommendation is wait first. If Chronical 1 proves to be good, then buy it at the time. If not, then wait for WoW. :)

No wonder this is the most popular game in the world.

Lineage II is currently more than five times more popular than Everquest when EQ was at it's peak, and no wonder why. This game has amazing graphic. It is a shame that nearly all of the reviews here come from people who have never even played the first chapter of the game, The Chaotic Chronicle. This game will make you an addict. It has 5 races to choose from currently with more on the way. You can be virtually any type of character you want, good, evil, neutral. You can enjoy role playing, or you can try to power level. Everything is in this game.

Most impressive though is how balanced the Player versus Player game is. If someone just kills new characters indiscriminately, they are likely to be reduced to the lowest level and suffer tremendous penalties, however, if they choose to participate in duels, there is no penalty whatsoever.

One of the most powerful forces in Lineage II that most other games of the sort lack is politics. Players can join clans and guilds and fight powerful NPCs to control castles, tax rates, and raise broods of dragons for them to ride around on.

I've been playing this game for 10 months, and I am still not tired of it. That's because unlike Everquest, expansions are free and unlimited. Every month Lineage II changes for the better.

If you want to see why this game is more than 5 times more populous than the next biggest video game, I suggest you buy it and try it for yourself.
