Best Expansion Ever!

This is probably the best sims expansion ever! Now instead of just staying in the limits of the neighborhoods or downtown you can now go to a vacation island where you can snowboard, skateboard, have a snowball fight, build a snowman, and much much more. They are also going to have percipitation, like rain and snow. It is undoutfully going to be the best sims yet!

Doesn't Work with Windows XP

I was looking forward to Vacation, only to get it home today, and I can't get it to run, it may run for a little while but then it just dumps me to the desktop. I looked around at some Forums at TheSims.com and well known fan sites, only to find that a lot of people are having problems running the game, especially with XP.

So to sum up, this was a complete waste of money since I can't even play the game.

The Sims are always a blast

All of the Sims games are extremely fun, and the Vacation Expansion Pack is no exception. I have spent many fun-filled hours playing this games. Any fan of the Sims games will love this expansion pack.

I don't own this game myself, but I played it at my cousin's house. I like the Sims, and have all of them except this particular one. I was immediately surprised on how many places you could go. The beach, the forest, and the snow. It was fun, but my cousin's computer stalled because the program is a bit roomy on her hard drive. Don't tell her, but her computer stinks. If I owned it and played it on my computer, it would probably be fine. Enough about my computer, so lets review what exactly you do in Vacation. Its just the normal Sims with some new objects at home, but when you go to the beach and the forest and all those places, it is a whole different story. My eyes glowed at the whole new places and the facinating new objects. Hot Date had this too, but this was like a more luxerious complex place the whol family could go to. The only downside is that all the Sims really wanna do is pig out and go to the bathroom. It is also a little annoying how they can get bored so quick. But Maxis helped put a lot of things to do in this game so there is plenty of other activities when your Sim get bored. They also can get really tired, too, but only REALLY quick when they use the halfpipe in the snow. I really recommend this expansion pack. All games have downfalls somewhere like those N64 glitches in the WWF Smackdown. But the Sims Vacation fully satisfied me when I played it.

An Older Sims Fan, in my 30's and not ashamed to play!

I tell you, the Sims Vacation has got to be the best expansion pack ever! My mother recommended this game to me, and I have been playing this game a little over a year now. With the Sims Vacation, you can do so many more things. Now the whole family can actually go on vacation together and have lots and lots of fun, and the new interactions make the game a whole lot more interesting to play. I highly recommend this game, especially to older ones who like to play PC video games. Maxis has done it again!

Another good idea...but...

I REALLY love The Sims. I've purchased all of the expansion packs to date. And Vacation seems like it will be a lot of fun--once Maxis works the bugs out. If you go to their message board they are the first to admit they are having some problems and we should "bear with them" I will be REALLY happy when a patch comes out so my maid doesn't clean my shower for 10 hours!

If you love The Sims, you will definitely want this expansion pack--something new and exciting for the little guys (and gals!) to do. But you might want to wait until Maxis comes out with a patch, to save yourself some frustration.

The best expansion yet!

The Sims Vacation has been the best expansion yet! (At least for me it has been.) I love it! There are new interactions with the children, tons of new items to keep your sims busy, and tons of new places to go when your sims want to stay in a hotel! If you enjoy playing the sims, you should get this expansion.

Good game.

I just got the game last night and have played it for about 4 hours. I sent my family to a hotel in the beach. It costs 500 simoleons to get the cab and around 200 to go in the hotel. Just a waring: It doesn't cost a lot of money to go on holiday. For one day in the best hotel in the beach I only spent 300 when before in my house I had saved 2,000 to go on holiday. You don't need too much money unless you spend a lot on items. you can build your own resort but you need to destory one before. I think that the game should have had another island just so you can create your own hotels and resorts. There are rather good 125 new items. There are tents, reception desks, shops, items etc. It is a good expansion and I recommend that you buy it but it is not the best Sims game existant. I am looking forward for the Sims Online which should be a hit.

Rush the Release, Suffer the Problems...

Let me first say that I love the Sims. I own every expansion pack. I was thrilled with each and every one of them. Until Vacation. Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT idea. And when the game actually WORKS (which is rare), it is a lot of fun.

However, Vacation has been anything but. It has been nothing but a headache from the second I installed it. It has increased the game load time from 3 minutes to more than 15. That's right, just to start the game, 15 minutes. To move between neighborhoods it sometimes takes as long as 5 minutes. In addition to this absolutely ridiculous load time for game and neighborhood, it crashes. ALL THE TIME. With no real reason for it. Even running the game in a window so that I will see the error when it crashes was no help, as the error it is throwing is so vague that EA's own tech support people couldn't figure out what was happening. ("Sims has caused an error in Sims.exe")

In addition to suffering through all of the problems with the game, I had to suffer EA's terrible technical support, which until Vacation, I had been thankfully spared. The first person I spoke to, known only as "Support 43", was completely incompetent and rude. I had to ask 3 times to get the problem escaladed, and then it was only with threatening to go public with the problem. Finally someone with an actual name contacted me and he worked incredibly hard to solve the problem. But in the end, all he could say was he didn't know why it kept crashing, and he had done all the troubleshooting he knew how to do (which included uninstalling/reinstalling multiple times, running the game in a window so that all errors would be visible, and removing all custom objects, walls, floors, and skins).

I think it all comes down to the fact that they didn't allow themselves sufficient time for testing on multiple environments. They released Hot Date in November or December and Vacation in March. How much time could they possibly have had for full regression testing? Several of the people from the BBSs have said that they have run into similar problems. Almost everyone noticed the remarkably lengthened load time and time to change neighborhoods (although this number varies based on how many customer files you have).

My advice: Wait until they have released a patch or two before you buy it. For me, I have uninstalled and I am waiting patiently for said patch before I will reinstall.

Sims games rock, and The Sims Vacation is totally awesome!!

The Sims Vacation is a really awesome game. It is an expansion pack to the Sims. In this game, you can take your sims on vacations (if you can afford them...500 dollars for the transportation, then hotel, food, etc.) My sims are always broke (hey, that's a nice thing.....only 7,000......hey, where did all the money go?????), but I can even afford vacations sometimes..... Well, anyway, on vacation, you can go to a hotel, or camping (didn't work out very well for my date romantically. He stood outside the tent all night. I don't think he could get in......). Sometimes on vacation, there are arcade kind of games that you can win points at, and you can get souveniers with those points. Vacations aren't always relaxful......(I had a Sim that suddenly forgot it was toilet trained as soon as it got to the nice beach hotel.....the maid kept having to come into my room again and again and, uh, clean.....) but they're fun. Snowboarding is really cool, so is Volleyball. Plus, The Sims Vacation is an expansion pack for the Sims! Yea! You have to have The Sims to play The Sims Vacation, but you don't need the other expansion packs (Livin' Large, House Party, or Hot Date) to play. But the other expansion packs are fun, so get them anyway!! As you can hopefully tell, I highly recommend The Sims Vacation and all the other The Sims games. They are very fun games.
