Second Worst Sims Expansion

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 5

I rather dislike this expansion. I own all four expansions for the PC Sims, and this is one of my least favorites. Personally, I don't think the addition of vacation mode adds much to the game after Hot Date, since vacation mode seems just like downtown, but slightly modified. Also, most of the new items are only available in vacation mode or are heavily themed to the vacation aspect, which, like I said, isn't very good. So, if you're a big Sims fan and are trying to collect all the expansions or something, or just think that your sims need a vacation, you should buy this. But for the rest of you, I'd either wait for the price to drop more, or just not buy it.

Somewhat disappointing

The idea of taking you sims on the vacation intruiged me and if you are looking at this product the idea probably intrigues you.... WHY SHOULDN'T YOU GET THIS GAME?**

-Limited amount of new items

-Very slow if you do not have a fast computer--2000 and up would probably be suitable

-Vacation is extremely similar to Hot Date. In fact, the only difference being that in Vacation you can spend the night away from your home. It is almost like being able to spend the night downtown--that is like the only added feature--excect the 'vacation' environment is different than Hot Date's--but not by much..

**Why Should You Get this Game?***

-Good Question... You can now spend the night away from home

-They added several new activities--such as volleyball, and snowboarding, although these activities you can only do on "vacation"

So is this game worth its money. It depends. In my opinion, I don't think so.... So from this point on, the decision is up to you! Glad I could help.

Best expansion pack yet!!!

I just got the game today.. and I must say, I'm impressed! It's so much fun!!

I love how you can control all your sims while on vacation.. not just one like Hot Date.

I also like how you can speed up time (didn't work on Hot Date).

And.. how the kids can shop for clothes by themselves. They're much more fun now.. before, the kids were pretty useless. They even have new interactions like "Rough House" and "Rock Paper Scissors".

I played for a few hours and haven't even begun to see it all. This is my favourite one so far. **WELL WORTH THE MONEY**

wonderful expansion pack!

The Sims: Vacation is a wonderful expansion pack. When I purchased it I was not expecting such a fun time. Usually I'll buy a new game, play it for an hour, and then quit until the next day but as soon as I started to play I was slowly drawn away from my world into the computer generated world of the Sims. I played vacation all night and just about all day the next day. Even though Spring Break is over now, I still play it as much as possible. I hadn't bought any of the other expansion packs before vacation so I was shocked at how much things had progressed. When my friend came over to play we couldn't keep away from the computer. I would reccomend this game to anyone but before you go and buy it just note this: with all the new features vacation has it will keep you up all night!

I love those Sims!!

Another add-on, more stuff for your Sims. While I wouldn't say it is essential, I would say it does add more stuff for you to play with. Add another location, actually quite a few locations, sort of, and this give the game more depth and lets you have even more fun and less sleep as you play with your Sims as they go skiing, lay next to the pool, camp, etc.
I cannot thinkn of a single reason why a Sims fan would be let down if they chose to purchase this.

The best sims expansion yet! Endless possibities for fun!

I own all of the "Sims" expansion packs, and while I have enjoyed all three expansion packs, this is by far the best. The new ?vacation island? adds endless possibilities for fun, and the new interactions for the children are charming. From snowmen, snowboarding, archery, fishing, and water balloon fights, The Sims Vacation allows you to take your sim?s lives to the next level. The new objects have amusing interactions such as a bear rug where you can toast some champagne and a tent you can ?play? in. The children in the game finally get equal treatment with tons of new social interactions and the choice of pjs, swimsuits and winter gear to buy on vacation. Parents and children have more to do together, and the results are heartwarming. While ?going downtown? can sometimes be stressful and a race against declining motives, vacation lots are stress-free with everything you could possibly need to rest, eat and have a great time. If you are getting tired of doing the same old thing with your Sims, buy this expansion pack and become addicted to the game all over again!

Good or Bad? It depends...

I have to admit, I've always been a fan of The Sims games. I have all the expansion packs to date. A couple weeks ago I got the Vacation and I give it 3-4 stars.

Pros:
Vacations are a nice change of pace from the daily grind, and there are a lot of new objects for both vacation and the household. There are humorous and entertaining new interactions with vacation items and people. While on vacation, kids can get rowdy and start smashing sandcastles, kicking people, etc. Adults can "play" in the tent. You can find an array of strange and valuable goods with the metal detector and at the fishing pier.

Cons:
~I am rarely able to take my families on vacation because they are so *expensive*, but if you are not opposed to using cheat codes to get you money (a la rosebud), then budgeting is the last thing on your mind.
~Your sims get bored very quickly of group activities such as volleyball, throwing waterballoons or snowballs.
~The vacation mascots (the shark, archer, and yeti) were cute for a while but they get really annoying after you've seen them too much.
~The one thing that has always been apparent to me is the lack of a Goal in the sims. I am aware that people can set their own goals in this game (ex: getting job promotions, getting married, etc.) But, I think that perhaps in future versions or expansion packs of The Sims, if there was a set Goal and perhaps even levels of some sort...it would be the way to make an awesome game into an extraordinary one.

If you like The Sims game, the Vacation Expansion will make it better. If you never liked it in the first place, this expansion pack isn't going to help you. Happy Gaming.

Great Game...But...

I don't know what it is about my computer...maybe it's just old, but I don't have very much space. I don't recommend this game to people with older computers, because 700 MG is an awful lot!

Now, on to the reviews:

Pros
- You get an extra neighborhood AND (get this) the jobs promised in Livin' Large (paranormal, journalist, hacker, slacker and musician)
- Kids can now officialy kick people, hug complete strangers (yes, that means the dreaded Marky the Sharky, Archie Archer and Betty Yeti) and behead snowmen as well as completely pulverise sandcastles
- Parents can scold their kids, greet people in different ways and more than I can just name
- There's too many items to count (igloo, carnival games, buffet table, and, (just like Hot Date) public washrooms *_*)

Cons
-I don't know if it's my game or what, but the people appear in one place, and then another like they are in 2nd speed, not first, so you can't watch all the fun little parts like snowboarding and the waterslide
-It takes 68 tickets to win something at the carnival
-People enter your Sim's hotel rooms, use the washroom while your Sim is bathing and not flush. Then the janitor gets stuck in the doorway between Betty the Yeti (who is trying to entertain your sleeping child) and the personal-space invanding Sim.
-It loads veeeeeerrrrry slooooooooow
-Your Sims get cranky very easily, and tired too. They get bored in minutes of playing water balloon fights

Sorry about the long lecture, but I just want to tell you that Vacation's Fun, but I'd wait for 'The Sims Unleashed' if I were you.

The Perfect Game But . . .

I honestly think that this game is the best game I have ever had. You have loads of fun building your own house along with the family you got to create, and furnishing it too! If you have the other expansion packs like Hot Date or Unleashed (Which I also have, too) You can make new friends at a bar or resteraunt in the downtown area or get a new pet down in Old Farmers Sqaure. I think I probably spend about three whole hours in front of my computer screen because I think its so much fun. And not to mention - There is thousands (and prehaps millions) web-sites that lets you download a whole lot of cool things. Unfortunatly, theres a downslide. The only thing that I hate about this game is that whenever you add on an expansion-pack, it slows down the game. And trust me - it's NOT my computer because I have plenty of space left. I've heard it from other people too with the same problem. I'm really proud of Maxis and their games and I applaud them for it. I really suggest people get this game because I know they have a lot of fun with it - but they WON'T have fun waiting for things to load. I would be VERY happy to hear some fedback on this. Tell me what you think!

Excellent!

Finally, the Sims get to take a moment to relax and have a vacation! Whereas before you could build a downtown, this time the Sims are going places - literally!

Not only are there HUNDREDS of objects to add to your Sims shopping list, there are places to go as well! The place in particular: Vacation Island! Just like going downtown, your Sim can pack up his or her family and take off for a while. It's as simple as calling a cab. :) There's actually three resorts they can go to with different themes: camping grounds, fishing spots, beaches and of course, the mountains with lots of snow! At last, the Sims get to see the weather change! Along with the different areas to choose from, there are new NPC available as well - including carnival carnies and vacation workers. But I'm jumping ahead...

Whereas going downtown really didn't take away from a Sim's everyday life, the only thing that really needs to be paid attention to would be the friends that are away from home. If you don't send them friendly postcards, you can watch your friendship bars deteriorate quickly. You can also buy them gifts you found along the way. And like downtown, Vacation Island is totally customizable. You have an unlimited budget to make your resorts as fantastic or simple as you want for your Sims.

Of course, just like vacation in real life, everything costs money! From renting Snowman-making equipment, to renting volleyball necessities and as always staying the night at a motel. (No more crashing on someone's couch!) But don't think spending isn't worth it - there's a number of games to play on the boardwalk, such as Whack-a-Will (guess who that is?) and arcade games along with the good old slot machines to help your Sims quickly deteriorating funds. You can also rent a metal detector to help your Sims find some extra cash. Or lets say your Sims don't really like to part with their well-earned cash. They can skip the hotels and go for renting an igloo or a tent. Talk about taking it the cheap way! (But hey - you can also "play" in the tents, if you know what I mean!)

Along with going the cheap way, your Sims can make an effort to find hidden treasures. They vary from crystals to statues to even buried treasure. (There's also super souvenirs, but Maxis isn't really telling what they are!) Once your Sim gets home, they go into a specially made cabinet that raises the value of the house and the objects within the vicinity of the cabinet. It will also attract your houseguests and guess what - your Sim will actually reminisce about his vacation to his or her friends! You can also look for a polar bear rug, picnic blanket, miniature golf castles, Venetian blinds, lodge doors, reversible art deco windows, marble columns, winding waterslides, stone fireplaces, and many types of new foliage

There are downsides to the Vacation as well. Let's say you have a Sim family you want to take with you on the trip. If your kids' moods drop, they start getting rowdy. Such as burping, armpit farting, and downright temper tantrums. If they get really crabby, they get into real trouble wreaking havoc among unsuspecting passersby's or even stealing from the gift shop. If the island's director (and yes, it's the cranky old Miss Crumblebottom) catches any of them - you can believe that you'll not only get a scolding for your bad parenting, but she'll hit you right in the wallet - with a hefty fine! These can be remedied by making a huge effort to include family activities such as building snowmen and sandcastles.

There's nothing that compares to this expansion pack and by far none of the other packs can hold water - including Hot Date. Don't miss this one at all!
