Everquest - A time consuming waist of money.

I played Everquest for awhile and all I have to say is if you want a good online role-playing game then this is not the game to get. While it is an online role playing game it is not good. Lag is always a problem and most classes need a group to survive, past level 6 people lose experience points when they die so if you are a rogue, enchanter, wizard, mage or necromancer then past level 6 you need to get in a good group. Most of the newbies walk around with armor meant for people level 30 + and that makes it less fun because everything is too easy. For example: You are fighting an orc pawn with a cracked staff (a level 2 monster with a level 1 - 5 weapon) and you are level 2 with a mixed suit of banded and mithril armor with a wurmslayer you will be able to kill monsters 6 levels higher than you which automaticly makes the game boring.

Ummm....so when does this game come out?

Yeah.. I give this game 5 stars and a big two thumbs up. I want to rave about a game that hasnt even come out yet. Come on guys, how can you rate a game that hasnt even come out yet. I have been playing EQ for years and personally I think the game is going down the tubes. Think about it. You can't tell me that you werent pretty disappointed when Velious came out. When I got velious the first thing that poped in my mind what WOW! I really got ripped on this update. All the landscape is white, alot of the new mosters are just old ones that changed color. If you ask me I think they already got plenty of people hooked on the game so why my a product better, we can just release (garbage) from now on. And another thing to Sony or Verant or who ever has a say so in it they should give this game away for free. When you sign up for a internet service you get the software for free right. Yes, because you have to pay a monthly fee to use the service. You cant tell me that the (price) a month from thousands and thousands of people isnt enough money to pay a bunch of monkeys to keep a server running and make a awsome profit. EQ is over rated and is full of RUDE little brats that call themselves GM's. By the time this review is posted the game will be out. (...) Take Care.

Yes all this they say is true about EverQuest(aka-EverSmack),you will turn non-social, you will spend most of your time thinking about EQ and playing it, or you will have alittle bit of control and say, ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Although,if you think about it, how could a cheap, no good, game do all this to someone? That means it must be a (GREAT) GAME, so I say you go out there buy it right NOW, and play till your eyes hurt!Hey we live and die, and alittle suffering in the middle, WHY waist it? So suck up thoughs sob stories 'Oh,I lost my marriage.Oh,my live is gone now' and do something worth doing. please! P

$10 a month and worth every penny

$10 a month is cheap for the entertainment value you receive from everquest. First of all, the game is incredibly more engaging than any of the "funnier" games as the other guy mentioned.... and it requires a lot more involvement of producer staff...thus the $10. But when you look at it, it's only $2.50 a week. Compare it with a trip to the movies....

So if you're only interested in big guns and blowing people up, yeah, don't pay $10. But if you want something really interactive, with a community of players that you can actually interact with, then get this. Much better than the other online RPGs, btw..

Awesome Game

This is probably the most fun online game I've ever played. I have been a gamer for many years. It is a very complex world, but without the frenzied complexity you find in most first person shooters. Sure you have to pay 10 bucks a month to play (actually less if you buy months in advance) but the game is constantly being improved and grown. There are constantly people to help you out and fix bugs and add content. The game is literally an ever quest. You can do as much or as little as you like. You can fish or kill giants, make beer or hunt Orcs, anything you like as it suits YOU--not some over-caffeinated, over-stressed programmer trying to come up with the next high volume Doom. There is no pre-determined script you must follow to get from the beginning to the end. There is no beginning and no end. You just play. Of course that is what is all about anyway after all.

If You Are Into Roleplaying This Game Is A Must

Sure you have to pay 10 dollars a month to me that is very little payment for the massive worlds that you can play in. Everquest's World of Norrath is just huge with soo many quests monsters spells skills, it's well worth the tiny 10 bucks a month which at the very least most of us can at LEAST make in an hour. But anyways the game is very exiting and lots of teamwork in groups is invovled. With SOL coming out the graphics will be even better and even more will be added. If you like roleplaying games you should give this a try, I did and I luv the game.(Caldiyena 21 Chanter of The Seventh Hammer Server)

Shadows of Luclin is an expansion pack with some excellent new features that is essential for any Everquest player. Probably the most exciting feature of this expansion is the new character models.

These models are drastically more detailed than the previous models. In addition to that, new customization features have been introduced. You can customize virtually anything, from eye color to hair style. On the down side, though, your friends running the old character models will not get to see all the nifty customizations that you have made. Also, the new models take some getting used to. Trolls are now more upright, Ogres look more fierce and less stupid and elves are more refined (facial-feature-wise). Just because there are a lot more details doesn't mean that you may neccessarily like the new models. One of my favorite features is armor is no longer just a texture, but it actually adds new polygons to give your armor girth.

In addition to that, Shadows of Luclin introduces the moon of Luclin, a mystical moon of Norrath that previously remained hidden in the night sky. There is a wide variety of zones to play in that add a new flavor to EverQuest, from the dank Paladual caverns to the empty void known as "the Grey" and exotic arabic styled city of Shar Vahl. Relatively speaking, each zone is 200% more detailed than the original EverQuest zones.

Also, this expansion introduces the playable race known as the Val Shir. These are basically giant cat-like men who are roughly related to the Kerrans and have been estranged on this moon for a long time. This playable race introduces the new class called the beastlord (which can be played by various other races). Now you can have a warder (an animal friend) who fights for you. Unfortuantely, this new little buddies often get lost, so you need to make sure they are right behind you. The Val Shir are well detailed, giving you a variety of different fur patterns to pick from (tiger stripes, leopard spot, etc.)

In addition to that, there has been a variety of excellent additions introduced since Shadows of Luclin, including the great Bazaar (in which hundreds of player gather in one place and use an interface to trade with one another). A brand new interface that is skinnable, an MP3 player and an out of game messenger so you can check in on your buddies when you can't make it in the game. Of course these are standard to regular EQ players as well.

With all the features, its hard not to get excited. Previous SOL was plagued with stability problems, but these are thing of the past. Despite the extensive memory requirements (which probably aren't so extensive anymore as of this writing), there are vitually no drawbacks to buying this game. However, if you do not like the mechanics of EQ, than chances are this expansion will not change your mind as they are all still there.

This game like any other can become addicting depending upon
the person. I have been playing EQ for about a year and half and spend an hour on it a day. The people who don't like this game
miss the whole point that its not just "getting stuff" its interacting with different people from everywhere that brings this game to life.
