If you looked up the word "disappointment" in the dictionary

...you would find the box art to Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance right next to it. After a 5 year hiatus, there are really no excuses for what the team at Midway has produced. This game could have easily been a 5 star game, but for whatever reason, all the things that could have made it great are skimped on or in some cases non-existant.

On the plus side, all the graphics, character models, and backrounds are wonderfully done. They are some of the best and original I have seen. The beauty of the Palace Grounds - fighting in the couryard while souls race into Shang Tsung's palace all around you - is something to behold. The new fighting styles are also well done, and the fact you can switch between them during a match is pretty cool as well.

However, when one hears the words "Mortal Kombat" what is the first thing that pops into their mind? Most likely, it is the word "fatality" and in this installment they are sorely lacking.
The characters only have one each(while in previous games they had 2 fatalities as well as 4 other ways to finish the match). You would think that since there is only one fatality they should be good, right? Wrong - this game has some of the worst. Many of them involve the head and two in particular are almost the same(Sonya and Jax). I also nominate Quan Chi's fatality as the worst fatality ever. This fatality even beats out Liu Kang's arcade machine drop, Raiden's very creative exploding uppercut, Sheeva's ground pound, and Rain's uppercut-them-off-the-screen-and-then-the-victim-reforms-upside-down fatality. Quan Chi is supposedly a powerful sorcerer who astrally travels to other dimesions, yet when it is time to finish his opponent, he turns them into an E.T. look alike? I, along with hundreds of other MK fans, could think of something better than this. I find funny that the character who had arguably the best fatality ever(part IV) has been reduced to this, also of note the worst looking character in Deadly Alliance(Hsu Hao - Village People reject anyone?) has the best in the game.

OK so some of their fatalities are lame, but at least we have the stage fatalities right? Nope, wrong again. At the time of this writing, it appears that there are no stage fatalities. Even thought there are stages that scream "STAGE FATALITY!"(e.g. Acid Bath, Lava Shrine) evidence is pointing out that there aren't any, I hope I am wrong about this one.

Another thing which could have been cool was the Conquest and Crypt modes(I refuse to spell everything with a "K"). Firstly the conquest mode is really nothing than a glorified training mode. Instead of having you do an endurance match of something strange like winning using only special moves, you go on 10 boring quests with each character - Fumble! And what do you get when you finish? Two hidden characters, one of which is cool(Blaze) and one..one...well let me just say "Mokap" is neither funny nor clever. Evidence also points to them not having ANY fatalities - Fumble again!

Also, the crypt was a cool concept but unfortunatly they failed in the implementation. About 95% of the coffins contain something worthless. I don't care about Comic Art, "Kan-os", or 3 second test videos from unfinished arenas(I do like the concept art, though). I would much rather have 100 expensive coffins filled with useful stuff.

Some people will say that Boon & Co wanted to return to the basics and build a great fighting engine, which they did. The fighting engine is leaps and bounds above the old Mortal Kombats, but that does not mean you skimp on the things that make Mortal Kombat what it's known for, namely secrets and fatalities.

I am hearing many things regarding people's dissapointment in the new MK. One is that they ran out of time. Excuse me, 5 years? Also, they took the time to render things like "Reptile's Skin Lotion" and the abomination known as "Mokap" - I am sure they had time to do something better so I dont know what happened here. The only thing I can hope, is that I am wrong about my gripes, and that the people who have used a hex-editor on the MK:DA disk have missed things that have been hidden by Midway. As it stands now, this is 3 stars. If I am wrong about everything, EASY 5 stars.

This game is one of the best Mortal Kombat parts ever. The graphic is very good and also the sound is enjoyable, but the voices of these characters are sometimes the same. These voices are not good enough but everything else is fantastic. My favourite fighters are Jax (Height: 6'6" 198cm), Johnny Cage (Height: 6'1" 185cm) and that sexy woman named Sonya Blade (Height: 5'10" 179cm). Sonya Blade is one of the best created fighter. Sometimes I doubt to Sonya if there is a real actor behind her. Also the actors of Sonya like Kerri Hoskins and Elizabeth Malecki are not ugly. Sonya Blade is the most sexy fighter in whole Mortal Kombat. Take Kitana and and make that Kiss of Doom against Sonya. Kitana's Fatality: down, up, forward twice and press triangle. You will see that her fatality will blow up Sonya until she explodes.

Let me see here...what do you get when you add outstanding textures, graphics, and rendering...a superb fighting engine...old friends to return with new looks, skills, and weapons...and a legend that left many shocked and very impressed? Quite simple, the legend that once was the most phenomanal combat game that people thought was now dead. Think again. Midway has brung Mortal Kombat back from the dead, and has completely redone the whole way we look at the world of this truly superb hand-to-hand combat game. First off, everything is brand...new (well except for the fighters, though there are a few exceptions). The levels, the fighting, the looks, the skills..there all new! The only thing that isn't is our old friends from the previous predecessors. There are some new friends as well though. Old bosses are back, new locations have been set, and a deadly alliance has been struck between the two most ... sorcerors ever to have been put on God's green earth. I'm too tired to write anything else, but rest-assured I will return with more information. And another thing, I'm not a reviewer who knows jack about this game, I've played, beaten, and learned most of what Mortal Kombat is all about. Tekken, Virtua Fighter...meet the old school of fighting...

If you can't beat 'em, beat 'em up.

This game is probably the most exciting game to come around in years, bar none. I played it once at my friend's uncle's house, and he's a designer for Sony, so he had an advanced copy for PS2. I have to say, I was blown away by the amount of colors and characters. It was like a Dickens novel come to life, what with the emphasis on law, growing up, and consideration of the poor. The digitized voices also reminded me of Dickens characters, if not Shakespeare. Before each match there is a lengthy discussion between the fighters--all of whom are VERY VERY VERY different from each other and extremely distinct from any other characters in all other fighting games. Some of the characters remind me of people I know and celebrities, which is cool, because you can pretend that you're actually fighting against these people from "real" life. Okay, I don't want to shoot your attention span (mine's already shot) so I'll end the review by saying that "Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance" is an experience in the high tradition of the "XXX" movie this past summer, 2Pac's "California Love" music video, and most Charles Dickens novels (it especially reminded me of "Little Dorrit", which I haven't read).

rediculous, unoriginal, and impossible.

Why, oh why are all the Mortal Kombat games THE SAME??? Ever since the first one, the games have repeated themselves over and over and over again. This one is no different, with only a few new charachters and old ones that are supposed to be dead! Kano was killed by Sonya in Trilogy, yet he's back. Kung Lao was killed by Shao Kahn, but he's alive and kicking. And Kenshi.... wherever the idea for him came from, it wasn't good. How does that guy fight with blindfolds? It's simply dumb.

One more thing about every last Mortal Kombat game: WHY IS NOVICE THE LEVEL SO HARD? Sure, it starts out easy, but gets way too hard, climaxing on Moloch. Moloch came out of nowhere, and he is a big cheapshot, repeating moves over and over, kicking your man while he's down, etc. The game is impossible to win, making it pointless.

Another interesting thing is while it says that there is a new fighting engine, the only thing that is different is that there are 3 fighting styles, and while it isn't hard to switch styles, they are usually all the same. Weapon mode is different, but very limited.

This is just another game in a series of games that are all the same. Save your money and don't buy this cliché. The only different thing about this game is the way the charachters look. What a joke.

COOL!

there isnt anything that bad in it I think that it should be rated T not M! Alot of kids who love mortal kombat are not allowed to get this game just because its rated M! Oh and if you like this buy Soul Calibur II ande III! Also buy Castlevania: Curse of darkness!

P.S : thats rated M too but its another stupid call on the ratings should be rated T!
