The best out of them all!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 10 / 10

Let me tell you this! This expansion is by far the best out of them all! I just got it today and I'm lovin' it! First off there aren't so many new items in the house, but the ones they have added are great! Some of them include a new hot tub, patio loungers and suvinior holders. To get to Vacation island you call a cab and it takes you to a map like on Hot Date, there are 3 areas for each of the following; snow, forrest and beach!
I liked the beach the most cause first off there's a great arcade centre where you can win tokens which you can exchange for prizes, there's a sand building kit which they love, a metal detector (mine have only found a boot and 14 simoleons), a cool pool slide, play volley ball, and so much more! The forrest was alot of fun too. You can rent a tent or play archery, have a water balloon fight and fish, and so much more! The snow scene is fun too, there is snowboarding, a snow slide, also an arcade, snowman kit and snowball fights.I'm so happy that they have finally made it possible for kids to interact more. They can play rough house, rock, paper, scisors, they can hug their parents and their parents can scold them if they are a pain! There is so much too do! The kids can also finally buy clothes and there is a whole new winter wardrobe as well! The director is also very helpfull with anything you might need and the cute kid entertainers are just waiting for a hug! It does work really slowely at times and I don't think the fast forward thing works on holiday but other then that it's the greatest!

A Great Expansion!!

The Sims now rules the PC, unquestionably. The Sims Vacation respectably adds to its success. This isn't a great expansion, but it makes The Sims more fun and colorful! It also expands the somewhat claustaphobic neighborhood and downtown areas. Vacation Island seems huge in comparison to the other two. A neat feature to Vacation is that you can go on vacation to a winter wonderland! In Simsville, the town seems like summer all year! No snow, whatsoever! Now there is snow fights, snowboarding, and snowy trees! Also making the game fun are the beach and campground areas. These are good, but I think the snowy region is the best! Maybe that's because I live in Colorado, but you'll like this addition too! New objects, walls, and the ability to build a hotel franchise adds to the fun! However, the hotels blow. For one thing, you are the only guests that stay overnight! That's kind of creepy, really. However, if you liked the original Sims, then you will be in no disappointment when you get this great add-on!

Tired of your days? Have a vacation!

Bored with your daily activities around the house? Give your character a little rest on vacation and have yourself enjoy the new features in Vacation Expansion Pack.

Call a travel agent and get off your house for a camp, skiing in a ski resort, shopping in malls, or go to the beach. Every place has accomodation so you can stay overnight there. Different places have different activities for you to enjoy your vacation. You can do BBQ on a camp site, shopping in malls, 'treasure hunt' on the beach, or make a snowman and play 'ski' on the ski resort.

Don't worry about being absent from your work. The time stops while you're on vacation! :D

The Best Of The Expansion Packs!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 9 / 9

The Sims Vacation is an excellent expansion pack. Although it is rated T for Teen, that is only because adults can "play" in the hottub but it doesn't show anything and younger kids who wouldn't know what that is wouldn't think anything is bad. They just see them going under the water and lots of bubbles.

As far as how good the items are, it comes with over 150 new items for your pleasure.

On Vacation Island, which gives you 9 new lots to create new vacation spots, your family can choose from the tropical beach, a nice camping outing, or a winter wonderland. Down at the beach, they can do lots of stuff, like volleyball, fishing, building sand castles, hunt for burried treasure, and other stuff. At the camping grounds, they can also fish, hunt for burried treasure, and lots of the other stuff they can do there. They can also have water balloon fights, camp out in tents, and other great things. At the winter wonderland, one of my favorites, they can even snowboard, along with the treasures and fishing. They can spend the night in an igloo or a hotel... you decide!

In all of the vacation spots, they can have a souvenier shop, where they can buy new clothing, post cards, or little animals. They also can have bars (which serve non-alchoholic drinks), buffett tables, and people to answer any of your questions.

But the fun doesn't end when you come back home. There are many new things to do at home, too, like new furniture and electronic arcade games. Don't forget about new heads and bodies for your sims and new wallpaper/floors/windows/doors/etc.

IF YOU HAVE TO BUY ONE SIMS EXPANSION PACK, BUY VACATION!
*Requires The Sims to play
*Rated Teen for light sexuality

I hope this review has been helpful to you in deciding whether or not to make a purchase!

Sure, it LOOKS fun, but is it really?

I just recieved this game, and have been playing it all day. Let me say that I am thorougly disappointed. Not only does it cause my entire system to run much more slowly, but there doesn't seem to be much "game" involved in it. For example, I had one sim family of mine visit three different resorts.

The first was in the forest, the more upscale of the three forest options, and primarily it was interesting. It was a different landscape, a completely different scenario. Soon after, I found that all my sims wanted was to eat, even if they weren't hungry. When I was finally able to pry them away from the buffet line, there wasn't much for them to do. My child sim stood, waiting for another child, at the water balloon area for a long while, mainly because there wasn't anything else for her to do. Another sim rented a metal detector and did three rounds of the hotel grounds. Not much fun there, either.

I then decided that my sims should visit the snow. While there was much more to do in the snow, in essence there was only the same problems. All they wanted to do was eat. When again pried away from the food, there were the options of snowball fights, snow sliding, snowboarding, and the hot tub (for the adults only). The snowball situation was identical to that of the water balloon situation. The snowboarding, while fun intitially, tires out quickly, at least for the sim. He or she will do at least 2-3 rounds on the ramp, wipe out, give up and walk away. The snow sliding, on the other hand, froze out my whole system, no pun intended. The hot tub, similar to the heart hot tub from previous expansion packs, was a nice addition, though it is only for use by adults.

After a day there, my sims decided to go down the beach resort. That, in my opinion, was the nicest of the three, and even IT had its' drastic downsides. My sim child developed the worst of the problems. It seemed to develop a case of diahrrea, which i realize isn't completely unusual for a vacation, but when a sim uses the toilet and immediately demands a shower, going back and forth between the two (because neither scale will improve at all) gets to be MORE than tedious. In contrast though, the beach proved to have much more "fun filled activities" than the other two combined. The pool, the waterslide, the carnival area, the arcade area, and, of course, the buffet table managed to keep my sims busy.

All in all, I wasn't pleased with the outcome of THIS expansion pack. One out of three resort areas isn't satisfactory. In short, I do not reccomend this expansion pack.

To the guy that claims to "have seen it firsthand"

Of course this game will be a hit. All of the Sims expansions have been great. I just wanted to point out that the guy who says he "saw it firsthand" got all of that information from gamespot.com. I read the preview there, and they have the exact information as the stuff you put; you just summarized it, and I saw some quotes that were exactly the same at their preview.

My true opinion

I see that a lot of other people have left reviews that tell of the features of the game, not what they actually think. This is an ok expansion pack, but really doesn't add anything particularly special to the game. Sure you can go on vacation, but there isn't that much to do while on vacation, I think it gets rather boring. You can even bring a friend on vacation, but can't control them so the friend just gets cranky.
If you are choosing between this and another expansion pack, don't pick this one!! I chose it over hotdate and wish I hadn't bothered to get it at all! WASTE OF MONEY!!

Best Expansion Pack

This is the best expansion pack for "The Sims"....what I best like about this game is that you can "save" the game while you are on vacation...you could continually play in vacation mode if you want to, your Sims never need to go home again! We all could use a perminent vacation once in a while...I also like the ideas of fishing and the metal detectors, and volleyball is a good time too......by the way if you place the love beds in the resorts your Sims can have other fun too! The new music is also enjoyable....
What I don't like is that more than one family (from your neighborhood) cannot vacation in the same place at the same time....also I don't like that your vacationing family is the only one that stays in the resort after hours, no other families stay except the employees....

Great, But it Takes Up Too Much Space!

I tried this game at my friend's house, and loved it! But now, I'm getting it and found that it takes up a whopping 700 MG! I've uninstalled just about EVERYTHING on the whole computer, but I just can't get enough space freed up!

It's Ok, but the rest are better

Lets get one thing straight, Vacation is a great expansion pack, alone, but it's just more of the same. First, Maxis came out with Livin Large, which was a good thing, because people wanted more. Next was House Party, and then came Hot Date, which is by far the best.

They should have ended the ep's with Hot Date. Vacation is just more of Hot Date, but with a family theme. Now that's great if most of your familys are including children, but there's still a limit to this. Your family gets in a mini-van, they drive to vacation island. Vacation Island has three themes to it: Winter Lodge, Woodland, and Beach. There are good objects like the vollyball net, but most of them are a waste. Vacation gives you five carnival games, which make you extremely bored watching it the second or third time around, making you not want to use them. The half pipe is the same way. It just gets so boring after the first time.

You have the option to take a friend from a different house with you, but I wouldn't suggest it. They want to take a shower, but they don't have the brains to take one themselves, they just follow you wherever you go.

Vacation is good, with its limitations, but if you are contemplating wether to get Hot Date or this, get Hot Date.

Lets just hope that Maxis' next expansion, which we know they'll make, will be a little more diverse.
