WWF Smackdown! 2: Know Your Role

When WWF Smackdown! made it's groundbreaking debut, it amazed some, and others didn't like it. It's obvious pros were graphics and the surprising new match of Special Referee, which is used as getting back at those who stabbed you in the back, or vice versa. There were some cons such as no commentary, and not that much choice in Create-A-Wrestler. It probably wont make any difference to those when it's sequel, WWF Smackdown! 2:Know Your Role hits shelves across the country (supposed release is Tuesday the 21st). Smackdown 2 will have about twice as many wrestlers as there were in the origional (that's about 60 wrestlers), plus a much more updated Create-A-Wrestler feature. Some of the new matches in Smackdown! 2 are the Ladder Match, Table Match, ---- in a Cell, and (the match that has to be unlocked first) the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. In addition to some of what you're expecting, you'll get a Create-A-Manager mode, where you pick between Chyna, Steven Richards and others to walk to the ring with you and cause disturbance. You also get a Create-A-Taunt mode, where you go frame-by-frame moving certain body parts certain ways, so you can do the Y-M-C-A, or give the crowd the finger while doing a russian dance. Finally, there are double-moves you can execute, an interactive announcer's table you can slam an opponent's head into and break it by doing some strong moves. There is way too much more to talk about, and not enough room to write about. So I'll go out saying I hope you liked my quick summary of the game, and I also hope you enjoy the game.

Now I'm not gonna come up with some stupid comment like "This game is great I reccomend it" because I haven't played it. Noone has. I will speak the truth. This game is going to have over 30 wrestlers including Too Cool, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. It will have some new modes, being a Ladder Match,a Table Match and a couple of others, more weapons, and lots more backstage areas to wrestle around in. There will also be the popular Season Mode and heaps more options in the Create-A-Wrestler mode. When it comes out, I am going to buy it, being the WWF fan that I am but if your not sure, do some research and make sure you really want it. Thanks for listening to what I have to say I hope this helps you with your choice in buying WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role.

I admit, I hated wrestling games at first. They were frustrating because I had to press too many buttons to pull off one simple move, even more for the finisher if I ever got that far. Then along came WWF Smackdown for Playstation, which pretty much took out the difficulty factor concerning controls, making the game much more enjoyable for me, especially when I held four belts with Kane in Season mode. Hearing nothing but good things for Smackdown 2, I just had to buy it and did so. When I popped it into my Playstation, I noticed that the loading times were a lot longer than they were in the first Smackdown. Even though that aspect of the game isn't really easy to overlook, the rest of the game made up for it. When I played the first Smackdown, there were a plethora of matches, and I couldn't think that there were more types. I was wrong. SM2 still has all the types of matches that SM had and then some. Hell in a Cell, IronMan matches (regular and special guest referee), Casket, Table, Ladder, and TLC (regular or title) are among the many types of matches in this game (personally I like Hell in a Cell and the IronMan matches). The season mode is refined and better than in SM. Instead of one match per month, there are five, and you earn some extra things during the season, from parts in Create A Superstar to characters (Stone Cold and Billy Gunn have to be unlocked). The mats even have the Pay-Per-View special logos from No Mercy '99 to Unforgiven 2000 (you can customize the mats in exhibition mode). You can still skip matches including your own, but it takes longer than it did in SM. The storylines are a little better, though still repetitive, but you can interact in some situations, like asking or telling someone to do something. I haven't actually created someone yet but Create A Superstar is much better than it was in SM. There are a lot more options concerning appearance and moves. You can also create things like managers, taunts, teams (known as stables) and PPV specials. The graphics are excellent and add a sense of realism, especially with all 50 or so characters, from the different backstage areas to Undertaker's bike in his entrance. There are many more backstage areas, like a diner, plaza, lobby, locker room, etc. SM2 has an expanded and updated roster of superstars, including the Radicalz, Too Cool and Rikishi, Kurt Angle, Stephanie McMahon, The Kat, and even my man Shawn Michaels. I'd write more but I've written a lot already and it's 2:30 in the morning. All I have to say is Know Your Role and buy this game. By the way, to get out of the Hell in a Cell, bounce off the ropes in the middle of the ring and dive into the panels that are colored lighter than the rest of the cell.

The latest addition by THQ's wwf liscence is WWF Smackdown!2:Know your role. With a highly updated roster (yes, Scotty To Hotty can do the worm and Rikishi the stinkface) with new superstars such as Kurt Angle the Radicalz and Too Cool. Smackdown 2 will also feature new modes such as Table matches, Ladder matches and the Infamous Hell in a cell match. The create a superstar mode is also much improved and there are now 15 known backstage areas such as, the lobby, the loading ramp and WWF New York! this game is a must-have for WWF fans

I got the game, and its the best game that THQ ever made!

I pre-ordered this game and got it yesterday. Now, this game has HIAC, casket, table, tagtables, ladder, TLC (unlock first), tornadotag, anywherefalls, specialref. (1 or 2), I Quit, Iron Match, handicap (1/2 1/3 1ontag), 3way, 4way and more. You can even combine matches. (example: a 3wayanywherefalls) Now the career mode is probably the best ever on a Playstation. (but it still can't beat No Mercy) And the CAW mode is the best ever on any wrestling game. Create-A-Taunt can take alot of time to get used to. Create-A-Stable, Create-A-Manager & Create-A-Taunt, gets in the mix once you create a wrestler. With 66 superstars this game could get really wild. Which makes the cut scenes contain the main superstars, not unless you are playing a sorry one. But still with all these new features, you can never get tired of it. THQ went out with a bang on the Playstation, and be tuned in to wait what they have in store for us on PS2. SD2 has lots of flaws in it. Like commentary, or extra costumes. The wrestlers don't go all the way to the ring, but you see the flash of fireworks and everything. Stone Cold & The Rock are shown going to the ring and stand on the turnbuckles, but you don't see the ring. The voiceovers are just snippets of wrestlers' voices. (That's all I gotta say about that! It doesn't matter!) There is a whole list of improvements. The graphics seem like they haven't changed. But they have improved (Tazz's tatoos. A whole Worm. A perfect People's Elbow. A higher Pedigree.) And the camera action is awesome. Even if you do the same move over and over again, the angle switches. This game has different DDT's like the Dangerous DDT, Standing Tornado DDT, Inverted DDT, Reverse Tornado DDT, Tornado DDT etc. They even have Triple H do the Knee Smash on a running opponent! And they renamed the Press & Knuckle to the Lou Thesz Press like real life! And moves such as the Shaky Knee Drop and D'Lo Leg Drop are easier now because you just do it by the head. The list goes on but I must stop. I hope you buy this game, because it will most likely be the best game of the year!

This game is the best wretsling sim that I have ever played.I have the unfinished version that the games magazines got and I cant wait to get my hands on the finished version. Create a wretsler is mutch better this time round and you can also create a taunt, create a stable, and create a manager. The hell in the cell matches are one of favourite matches and you can even throw your opponent through the roof of the cage. The season mode is extremely better and the game features all the WWF superstars to date including the goodfather and RTC and the radicals. This game tottaly rocks.

Wrestling Fan's dream

I can't say this is the best wrestling game there is since I haven't played Royal Rumble(DC) or No Mercy(N64). But I can say it's my favorite and I'll tell you why:

CREATE A WRESTLER! It's all about me(the gamer). Ever notice how boring those old wrestling games are? That's b/c half of them feature wrestlers that are retired or moved on. But the beauty of CAW is that you can always make your own wrestler with a unique personality. And if you had enough memory cards, your own league full of them! I disagree with anyone who says there aren't enough moves. There's easily over a hundred for you to assign to your CAW. I will admit it's bad you can't change your entrance once assigned, as that adds to your wrestler's growth; how many times has HHH changed music in the last 2 years?

Gameplay seems to be better than Smackdown 1 and a little trickier to boot. But gone are the annoying "reversal-of-every-move" when you're just trying to leg drop someone. There's a nice variety of matches.

As far as sound goes, I really wish JR and King were commentating this game. The graphics could be a little sharper on the ring, especially the ropes but they are still good.

My only complaint with this game is the excessive load times and screens. This shows up especially bad when during a season you load in and out of a 6 second screen that just says "The Rock is in the Arena tonight". That could've been left out.

Simply Awesome. Must Play

I've been playing wrestling games for over 10 years and this one is BY FAR the best I've played. Out of all the recent WWF games this is by far a bench mark. It takes the AWESOME game engine from Smackdown and combines it with the AWESOME (and improved on) Create a Character feature from Warzone/Attitude. The Create a Character from Smackdown 1 was a joke. This create a character is by the far the best I've scene. A new innovation is you can actually preview each characters moves and the game expands on the movesets that you can use from previous games including Martial Arts, Boxing, and Submission techniques. There are also improved customes and you can fine tune your wrestlers skin tone, physique, etc. You can LITERALLY make ANY type of wrestler you want. AWESOME!!!

The tag team feature is also expanded upon. Whether playing with the default characters or when making your teams you can actually pull off double team maneuvers including -- but NOT limited too -- the Dudley's 3D, the Eliminators Total Elimination or the Superbomb from the Top Rope or the Stacked Super-Plex. AWESOME!!!

Other great new features are the Create a Manager and Create a Stable. You can actually set up players as managers and group your favorite wrestlers into whatever stables you wish. You can create a new Dudley Stable, the Radicals, the NWO, whatever. Best of all, your stablemates actually do interfere for you both backstage and in the ring. Another AWESOME feature.

The new game features kick butt as well including Ladder, Table, Hell in the Cell, Casket, TLC, Slobber Knocker (gauntlet type match). The features in this game are ABOVE AND BEYOND all the other wrestling games.

Replay value of this game is AWESOME. I haven't tired of it yet, much like Smackdown 1 and Attitude before it. I tired of previous releases fairly quickly.

Here's a quick rundown:

Good: NEW MATCH FEATURES (TLC, Ladder, Table, Casket, Hell in the Cell) NEW and IMPROVED CREATE A WRESTLER: preview moves, AWESOME new movesets, so so costumes. Create a Stable: You can group together anyone you want, anyWAY you want. Just about the ENTIRE WWF Roster to Choose from. Improved double teaming in Tag mode.

Bad: Season Mode. I hate having to sit and go through each match-by-match in order to FINALLY get to my match. This is the ONE thing that I HATE about this game...

Hardcore/Anywhere Fall: Getting from one site to the next backstage is hard and irritating. It seems if you challenge the computer it is a little "chicken" and tries not to fight outside the ring if possible...

If you are looking for a great wrestling game, GET THIS ONE. It is head and shoulders above new entries for WCW and ECW.

Must have.

The Best

This game is the best ever and a wonderful game to end the PSX I era. You can fight in the bar, kitchen, wwf new york, restraunt, parkinglot, backstage, and the lobby, along with the bathroom. With 58 or so detailed wrestlers it is the best game ever. With the new season and create a wrestler and a sign. Also you can get or create a stable such as T & A or D-X. this is a must for all those wwf fans.

The game that started it all... for me that is.

I've been a big fan of wrestling for pretty much all of my life, but I'd never really played any of the games. Well, I was over at my new friends house one day, and her brother was playing this game. I asked him if Trish was on this, and he said she was. Then I asked if I could play, and he said yeah. After this, we ended up becoming really good friends. I went out and bought this game a few months later, and it was always in my Playstation.

Now, onto the game. Sure, the graphics aren't as good as the SmackDown! games for PS2, but for Playstation, they're pretty damn good. You've got tons of Exhibition mode matches. Singles, tag team, hardcore, anywhere fall, handicap, King of the Ring, Royal Rumble, survivor, and special matches. The special matches are TLC, Casket, Cage, Hell in a Cell, I Quit, Iron Man, Ladder, Special Referee, Table, and Slobber Knocker. More then enough to keep you occupied for hours! You can also have title defenses in Exhibition, something you can't do in the next three :( Also, there are over 50 superstars to choose from!

There's also Season mode, where you can go through the WWE, and win matches, unlocking new superstars, create parts, and more along the way.

Then there's Create mode, one of the best things about the game! There's Create a Pay-Per-View, where you can host your own 10 match pay-per-view! The improved Create a Superstar mode gives you complete control over how you want your superstar to look, and is one of the best things about the game. You can also Create a Taunt, which allows you to create taunts for your created superstar to use. There's also Create a Stable, which allows you to form tag teams and stables, that have special entrances when they come out together.

The last two modes are Ranking and Belt Holder. All you can do is check who ranks where (which is determined in matches), and who holds the belt, how long they've had it, and the history of the belt.

So that's about all of it. By the way, once you get used to the controls, this game isn't as hard as you would think. So, if you own a Playstation, and you're a fan of wrestling, or any kind of game like this, you should buy it. You won't be disappointed!
