Take a trip to Silent Hill.

I had a chance to buy a new game and after a little research I decided to buy Silent Hill 2. I wasn't expecting what I got.
It turns out that Silent Hill 2 was WAY BETTER than I expected!
SH2 has so many qualities to it.
1. Great Graphics.
2. SH2 has an awesome and gripping story. I hate it when I have to stop playing. Its that gripping! There are constant twists and turns in the story. Prepare to have your mind messed with.
3. Fun puzzles. The puzzles never get too hard. They are a challange but you won't get stuck on them for long.
4. Good controls. I've heard people complain about the controls but I have had NO problems with them.
5. Awesome sound effects. The game uses sound effects and music very well. The sounds creep me out a lot!
6. 5 different endings!
7. VERY FREAKY AND VERY FUN!
At first, SH2 wasn't scary. But the more and more you play, the scarier it gets. It is a lot freakier and scarier than Resident Evil! I never want to stop playing! Its so gripping! I wish I could tell you about everything thats happend and happening in the game but I don't want to ruin even a little bit about this awesome game.
Take a trip to Silent Hill. A trip you will certainly enjoy. But don't forget to bring some clean underwear, just in case....

Almost perfect

Great game that keeps you ready to jump right off your seat. Very scary and suspenseful, with great graphics, animations and story line.

The only thing that would make it better would be to make this a first-person game; with the third-person perspective, it is sometimes hard to see where you're going. I think setting this in a first-person perspective would be even more frightening.

Definitely worth a look!

Good, only for a while..

I've played SH1, and now, this. This game is great, with the textures, lighting, and mood, and even the grain feature helps too. But, all this did was really KINDA creep me out, while SH1 is a total horror game. I'd recommend SH1 first.

So Scary I had to stop playing for awhile!!!

This might sound lame but at 1 am in the morning I was playing my brand new Silent Hill 2 game and it unnerved me so much I actually stopped playing it! I couldn't go on because it was too scary for me! I'm gonna keep playing though because I Love this game but if you are wary of survival horror games I must warn you to play this game BEFORE it gets dark because it will get to you! Anyone who is skittish and who doesn't like horror games or movies there is NO WAY on this earth you will be able to make it through this game! I'm not even in the middle of the game and I can realize this! Just a warning!

The game's graphics are simply astounding! James looks incredibly realistic in the way he runs, moves, talks and try this with him. Make him run for a period of time and than make him stop. You will notice James breathing hard(he breathes harder if you make him run longer!) just like a real person! It's this level of realism that has gone into this game and it just makes this game that much more scary. When you are walking along a street knowing you HAVE to walk there to get to another place in the game but knowing you will come across some pretty perverse monsters definately freaks you out!

Again to clarify like I said earlier, this game is definately NOT for anyone under 15-17 because SH2 is incredibly disturbing and is not rated M for nothing!! Silent Hill 2 really IS insanely scary and you WILL feel like you are in a horror movie. If you love survival horror/horror movies or who like a solid game with great gameplay plus amazing graphics should get this game! The music too is extremely effective and the sound effects made me jump more than a few times! BUY THIS GAME NOW!!! SH2 is the future of Survival Horror games and another sequel(or prequel)will have to do alot to top this one!

Scary as hell!

Silent Hill 2 combines stunning graphics, amazing gameplay, surround sound and lots and lots of fog to scare the heck out of even the most diehard horror-film fan. From the moment the game started, I had this creeping feeling on the back of my neck...like something bad was going to happen to James (or me!).

While the story can be a little confusing in places, the overall game is so worth the little points where it drags. The sound alone is worth playing the game, more so if you actually have surround-sound speakers setup.

The M rating is well-deserved; this story has some themes and scenes I would most certainly NOT recommend for anyone under 17. And the nightmare potential here is unparalleled.

If you're at all a horror-survival game fan, or even if this is your first, play it!! What was that sound?!?

Dead Perfect.

I rented this, along with the first, and beat it entirely on my own. I can't count how many times I wished I had a friend with me. Through most of it I questioned why I even played it, it scared the hell out of me, but I still pushed myself to play it. It was well worth it.
The graphics are amazing, the story an emotional and complex one, the characters realistic, and then there's the monsters. I didn't have a problem at all fighting, and the last boss was surprisingly easy. I guess there is a few monsters that scared me and presented a challenge.. Those Pyramid Heads were not much fun.
It explains far more than the first one, but still brings up the question; why the hell is Silent Hill infested with monsters? If you play the first two, clues point to a curse. It still doesn't make any sense. Someone told me you'd have to play all three to figure the story out, and that it was very much worth it.
I'd highly advise getting this. I rented it and beat it in 8 hours, I wouldn't go out and rent it again. I suggest getting some free time on a weekend, renting this and the first, and make sure you have someone with you. If you enjoy finding every item, getting every ending, and fully discovering all the parts of the story, then you might as well buy it. It'll take you forever. Enjoyable none the less.

The most morbid and twisted horror game ever!!!

This game is about a man named James Sunderland whose wife has died 3 years ago but then he received a letter with Mary written on the envelope and in the letter it says: "Well, I'm alone there now...In our 'special place...' Waiting for you." So James goes to the town of Silent Hill that is deserted except a few people. James meets Angela Orosco in the cemetary and she is the first person he meets, who is looking for her "mama." Laura, who is this little girl James meets in the apartments for the first time and she doesn't see the monsters in the town, she is very innocent. Eddie is another character who James meets in the apartments and is really never explained why he's even in Silent Hill in the first place. Maria is this woman who James meets in Rosewater Park, who looks almost exactly like his late wife. Maria tags along with James throughout a lot of the game but it's freaky that sometimes you don't know exactly what happens to her or where she is because she'll just disappear.

I say this game is very morbid and twisted because of a lot of things. First, all the cryptic scriptures and notes and books. There are a couple dead people you just see lying in the street that have maps where someone drew on them and makes you wonder exactly what it means. There are also a bunch of notes written on 4 or 5 pieces of paper about something coming to kill or something like that just thrown on the street. The two books, Lost Memories and Crimson Ceremony are about rituals and just really creepy stuff, morbid stuff. Later in the game, there is this place called the Historical Society that have pictures on the walls and it's just really morbid and twisted, it kind of scares me every time I go there. Other things include a bunch a holes that you jump down and a morgue. Just about everything in this game is just really morbid at some level. It scares me so much that I only play for so long before I turn off the game. In the Rosewater Park, there is this statue that is referencing people being under the lake and makes me wonder why they would put up a statue instead of putting all these people in a real graveyard, stuff like that, morbid stuff like that freaks me out when I really think about it and that's why I like it so much. Of course in real life, I'm not into stuff like that but when it comes to video games, I just happen to like it! This game scares me a lot and I wouldn't recommend this to someone who gets scared easily.

This game is great. A true horror experience. Most horror..no, all horror .... At least that's what I thought before I got this game. Now I think that all horro EXCEPT this .... This is what it means to be TRULY horrified. You are James Sunderland, a regular guy who's wife was dead because of a flu. 3 years later, you get a letter from your wife saying to meet her at Silent Hill (aka Hell). You don't get it. How could I get this letter from someone who's already dead? You go there anway.

The atmosphere of this game is teriffic. The moans from the zombies, the graphics, the blood-smeared apartments, and that music! The music is the best part of the game. It really frightens you. While not as scary as the first, it certainly is more musicial than the first. The bosses are horrifying, espeially Pyramid Head. (It's him...) The messages you find are eerie, espiecially the paintings in the prison (500 people at a recital? Wha?) And the deeper you get into the game, the more creppy it gets. The only problem is the combat. It's a little sluggish, and not as much fun as other games like these.

Some people say that Silent Hill is a ... of Resident Evil. It's not. It's more thought out than that. Resident Evil is the old-school Roger Corman kind-of scary which got old fast for me. Silent Hill is more of an H.P. Lovecraft scary, where the mood really startles you. It's the way horror should be.

This is a great game, and it truly is a work of art.

Konami Drops The Ball on SH2

Silent Hill 2 is unfortunately a big disappointment. Konami obviously has the potential to make great games for PS2 as evidenced by Metal Gear Solid 2. However, Silent Hill lacks a lot of the key qualities a good game must have. The first major problem is the game's controls. They are the worst controls I have seen for a game in a good long while. SH2 makes poor use of the analog control stick, making directions depend on what direction the character is facing instead of the camera angle. This can be extremely frustrating in games that are not in the first-person, like SH2. The controls basically change whenever your character changes direction, which is something that really stinks during action sequences with monsters.

The characters are also pretty bad. They lack development and depth, making it hard to sympathize with them. While Konami does a nice job making them all look like they came out of a horror movie, that's about as good as it gets. Many times I found myself disliking the main character and almost hoping that he'd die a horrible death at the end of the game.

My reccomendation: Save your money for the next Resident Evil game. Resident Evil games are better in almost every way than SH2. If you haven't already got it, go get Resident Evil: Code Veronica for PS2. You'll be a lot happier.
